Leon Ceglarz - A Polish political prisoner, survivor of Dachau and Mauthausen (29 mins)

Born in 1914 in Płock (Poland), the teacher Leon Ceglarz was arrested in April 1940, during Nazi raids against Polish resisters and intellectuals. After a short spell in Dachau, he was taken to Mauthausen in May 1940. In his 2003 testimony, he describes SS slogans and abuse on arrival, brutal torture by fellow inmates (Kapos), suffering and suicides, and the complex relations between inmates, where the survival of one could mean the death of another.
