Miron Abramov - A Ukrainian slave labourer and survivor of Mauthausen (33 mins)

Born in 1924 in the Donetsk province (Ukraine), Miron Erastovitch Abramov was deported to Germany in 1942 as a slave labourer for the war industry. Arrested in 1944 for resistance activities, he was later taken to Mauthausen. In his 2002 testimony, he describes Gestapo torture, help from Austrian civilians on the way to the camp, work in the Mauthausen quarry, an SS execution of a prisoner “trying to escape”, the different prisoner groups and relations, and life after liberation (initially in a Soviet “filtration camp”).
